Nail - Rainbow

This was one of those days when I spent soooooo much time doing a design and never managed to get a good picture! My hands were completely dried up no matter how much hand cream or oil I used. I pretty much photoshopped the crap out of these pictures to make my hands look normal. After this design I had to clip off the gel extensions I had on and now I'm giving my real nails some time to grow out a little bit before I try them again.
My first race is coming up and it's the "Gay 5K" during Pride Week! I may have to try out another rainbow design for race day.

Dinner with Julia, Ru, Andy and Sylvia

Oct 5: If you could have dinner with any 3 people, living or dead, who would they be?

This was a tough choice, so I'm picking FOUR and you can't stop me! I would love to have a dinner party with Sylvia Plath, RuPaul, Andy Warhol and Julia Child.  Of course there are relatives that are passed away who I would love to have dinner with again, but I don't think that was really the purpose of the question. I picked this little group not only because I love and admire all of them, but also because I think that they would interact well. I'm sure Rupaul and Andy would get along famously right from the start, but I don't want to leave a traditional girl (by our standards) like Sylvia all alone feeling awkward. I think Julia would be just bubbly enough and not as eccentric, keeping Sylvia comfortable. Also for goodness sake, someone has to help me do the cooking!

Blogtember - I don't go straight, I move forward.

I'm so glad the Story of My Life blog is doing Blogtember! I liked doing Blog Everyday in May and this month I'm really not feeling inspired to post a lot so far. I'm too tired to do any projects and when I get around to it I forget to take pictures or I just don't have the energy. I need someone to tell me what to write about so I don't have to think too hard!

Tuesday, September 10: Describe a distinct moment when your life took a turn.

There have been SO many times when my life has taken a turn I don't know where to start. Should it be when I came out of the closet in high school? When I left for college? Joined a sorority? Left the sorority? Got into a relationship with an alcoholic? When I got OUT of the relationship with an alcoholic? When I joined the military? When I came out of the closet again? Got married? Got pregnant?

I'm sure an obvious one would be meeting my husband. But that doesn't really seem like a "turn." It's not like I was going in one direction, met him and then moved in another. Well... I'm sure there is a gay joke in there somewhere. But really, it just seems like we were both going in the same direction and just met up along the way, no turning involved.

I guess I'll just go with my first big turn in life, which was coming out at the age of 15. So, it is a little difficult to not automatically start defending myself, since I am clearly married to male. But honestly, if you don't understand that or are confused by it, just leave now. People are people and you don't choose who you love. If that isn't something you understand then you should probably take a long hard look at yourself and how you interperet your own emotions.

Not to get off track though! My point was that coming out really changed everything for me. I finally got to surround myself with people who understood things! People who actively cared about racism, sexism and homophobia. People who believe everyone is equal and should be treated with respect. It really paved the way for my move to San Francisco and the life I would have there. I learned that the most interesting people are the ones who are different, and that following the crowd doesn't always lead to happiness.

In case you are wondering, coming out the second time was easy-peasy. I had already gotten over the whole, "what will they think of me?" garbage after coming out the first time, so I really couldn't give a hoot what anyone thought. I pretty much just said, labels are lame. I like everyone. Heck, my latest celebrity crush is a drag queen named Raja from RuPauls Drag Race.
Do I like him as a male? Or as a woman in drag?
Don't even care.
I don't need to dissect it or try to figure out "why."
I mean, why not?

The title of this post is a little euphemism that my friend from San Francisco would always make while taking driving directions. He would say, "We never go straight, we only go forward!"
I feel like that has a double meaning to me now, besides being a silly jab at straight people. I didn't "go straight" I just  kept going forward and let life happen without putting myself in a box.

Film Photos

We tried out our Nikon EM in June and got most of our film developed today. We were a little worried that the photos wouldn't come out right since the rewind crank was broken on the camera. We had to go into the closet and take the film out to hand wind it back into the film case. Lucky for us it worked and we have quite a few nice pictures! I'm excited to buy more film and continue taking photos.

What a handsome guy!

Pride Weekend

This Saturday was full of fun times! I went shopping with the girls, hung out with cute babies and best of all it's Pride weekend! The first pride I ever went to was in San Francisco, but lets face it, every day in San Francisco is Pride. Nothing could really beat that parade. I went to one in Las Vegas and it seemed there were just as many protesters as supporters. The Anchorage Parade had no protesters at all! It was small but still really fun and full of great people and organizations. Pride is like Christmas to me!

After the parade we went over to little Marley's second birthday party in the park. Mary made cupcakes and Marley found a boyfriend in the playground.

That night I babysat for a friends daughter, Elle. We watched Care Bears and built castles and drew pictures. I love babysitting :)

Holiday Mishmash Rainbow Cupcakes

These are my Christmas/Halloween/St Patrick's Day/Gay Pride cupcakes! I hate having holiday themed stuff around my house. It's fun to have around the time of the holiday, but immediately after I'm thinking, "What am I gonna do with this NOW? It's just taking up space." I had Halloween cupcake liners just laying around, green frosting in the fridge and Christmas sprinkles. I figured adding a little Gay Pride would make these cupcakes all inclusive!

I really love how the colors came out. The teal especially. Does anyone know the secret to purple food coloring? I can't seem to keep it from looking like mud.
