Holiday Mishmash Rainbow Cupcakes

These are my Christmas/Halloween/St Patrick's Day/Gay Pride cupcakes! I hate having holiday themed stuff around my house. It's fun to have around the time of the holiday, but immediately after I'm thinking, "What am I gonna do with this NOW? It's just taking up space." I had Halloween cupcake liners just laying around, green frosting in the fridge and Christmas sprinkles. I figured adding a little Gay Pride would make these cupcakes all inclusive!

I really love how the colors came out. The teal especially. Does anyone know the secret to purple food coloring? I can't seem to keep it from looking like mud.

It's in the Details

Nothing will stress you out like money! I'm trying to be thrifty with my wedding plans, but with catering, locations and plane tickets the dollar signs are increasing before my eyes . I let hubby pick out the location for our honeymoon because he hasn't had the chance to travel like I have. He chose Hawaii, which is nothing to complain about! We have a friend who is a travel agent, so we may get a good deal. I'm sure things will all fall into place.

I picked out some bakers twine from In The Clear on Etsy and made my own little tags for the place cards...

As promised, the Guestbook I made. I am going to buy a bunch of Instax-Mini film and have mustache-on-a-stick props for people to take silly pictures with.

I found some washi tape at the same Etsy store as the bakers twine for guests to tape their photos in the guestbook...

Aaaaaaaand my silly photo props made from cardstock and wooden dowels. I made a Hello Kitty Bow and some lips as well, but didn't take pictures yet.

Bridesmaids and Groomsmen

I really have to learn how to take better photographs! I thought I could use the excuse that it's been dark in Alaska, but now the days are getting longer. It's not a good excuse anymore! I need to get the hang of this whole "natural light" thing.

But enough excuses... Here are my bridesmaid and groomsmen invitations!

Invitations

Alaska has been COLD the past few days! In the beginning of February it started warming up. It was above freezing for a few weeks, but of course, once I start to think winter might be fading and the temperatures will rise little by little, it drops to -5 in the morning! Yuck!
I've been very sad lately about being away from my husband. Over the weekend I worked at a marriage retreat that the Chaplain was running. It was a little depressing to see families together and couples doing workshops to improve their marriages, knowing I was up here without him. But I'm doing my best to focus on good things, which is why I thought I would post my rough draft of our wedding invitations. Working on this stuff is fun and will keep my mind on all the good things that are ahead for us.

I used a vector program similar to Adobe Illustrator called Creative Docs. I used it for most of the text, but I used a couple of stamps from Martha Stewart and Tom Holtz to give them a more hand made feel.

Can you tell that I love those vintage hand prints?

For the finished invitations I'll be using nicer paper and a cute corner punch to make them more decorative. I still don't have the date, location or time set in stone so I just put in estimations for now.
That's it so far!

Maps

It's starting to sink in that my new husband is in New York and I'm in Alaska. Things are going back to the way they were, for the most part. Lots of Skype and video calling, long distance telephone, a four hour time difference... I'm trying not to get too depressed about it. After all, I have a wedding reception to plan!
I've already decided my theme is going to be "Vintage Traveler." It's fitting considering that we are 4,000 miles apart! I also happen to be obsessed with maps and old postcards. Joe and I went thrifting while I was home and I found a stack of old maps of the world. I'm still considering how to use them. I've seem so many inspiring images that I can't decide if I should make buntings, invitations, centerpieces or something else out of them!

I have some projects that I've already finished for the wedding, which I will share soon!
