My Favorite Babywearing Resources

I'm not one of those moms who wears her baby everyday, since after work I just want to relax on the couch and watch a Golden Girls marathon. Not to mention it's hot as balls in Louisiana and she gets too hot and starts to be cranky! There are some weekends, though, where I want to get some stuff done around the house and Ellie doesn't want to nap in her rocker, so I usually put her in a wrap to keep her occupied.

Instructional Websites
Wrap You In Love - Hot mama alert! Rainbow faux hawk? Yes, please! But really, her videos are great and very helpful. She doesn't talk in them which is a good change from the really chatty youtube videos you usually see. She gets right to the point and has a lot of videos to check out! She has a blog as well, here.
Babywearing 102 - This is a wonderful Tumblr page that someone from the local babywearing group posted on FB. Lots of information, videos, links and pictures. Many questions answered as well!
My Youtube Playlist - These are some of the videos I put on a playlist so I could go back to them later.
Natural Mamas - A sizing guide.
Budget Babywearing - Don't believe the hype, babywearing doesn't always have to be about spending $200+ for a luxury wrap. People have been doing this around the world for thousands of years. Check out the video with a mama using a towel as a back wrap in South Africa.

Shopping
Birdies Room - Nice selection of Didymos wraps. Maybe one day I can pick up a shorty!
Mom's Milk Boutique
Sakura Bloom - Gorgeous ring slings.

Married People Stuff

Joe and I went to a marriage retreat yesterday. Sounds like some cheesy married people stuff, huh?? I wouldn't normally do things like this but the army provides it for married soldiers and it's usually run by the chaplain. Joe and I are both atheists, so obviously we didn't go for the religious aspect of it. Mainly I wanted a day off work, but also the program was going to be the 5 Love Languages, which I've heard was pretty good. The last retreat we went to was the most horrifyingly sexist crap I had ever heard in my life. It was called "Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage" and true to it's name was pretty actually pretty comical, but not in a good way. It was pretty much a big long joke about how women are crazy and men are pigs, disguised as marriage advice. Joe and I kept looking back at each other and laughing at how ridiculous it was.
This time was thankfully much better! It wasn't in a fancy hotel like last time and it was only one day, but the material was pretty good. It turns out my primary love language is Quality Time and Joe's is Physical Touch. This explains why Joe is always grabbing at me and why I hate him playing video games so much! Mine is the toughest one, for which there is no substitute. I need real face to face time without distractions. Just being in the same room isn't going to cut it. The good thing about it is that we can combine our needs into a nice snuggle fest with good conversation!

Teeth

This little bug has two teeth coming in!

We suspected she was teething when she was so fussy and drooling, but now I know for sure and I'm a little sad. My little love is growing bigger every day!

I've been back to work for a while now but it seems to be getting harder and harder to be there instead of at home. I've been doing 24 hour duty a little too often and that really kills all my family time for two whole days. It's depressing and annoying. Unpleasant things seem to be looming ahead as well, so I'm a little anxious. I am SO ready to be a civilian.

Road King

Ellie is wearing her Harley onesie especially for grandpa's' visit!

Is it really July 20th and I haven't even gotten around to posting my 4th of July weekend?? Yikes.

To celebrate the 4th we went to a country concert that was followed by fireworks. I'm not a fan of country, but I like to get into the spirit of the place that I live so it was a nice experience, complete with fried oreos and chicken on a stick!

The next day my dad arrived on his motorcycle. He has been travelling on his motorcycle across the country for probably two months now. He went from New York to Colorado for a conference and from there he went to California to drive down the pacific coast highway, the same one Joe and I took on our road trip, and visited my grandpa. After riding through the Mojave he came to visit us in Louisiana. My neighbors were eyeballing his Harley in our driveway. a few years ago he traded in his Honda Shadow for the Road King for long trips.
Looks like being on the road runs in the family! I just love road trips. My dream was to drive across the country in VW Bus, but that dream was shattered after I realised how hard it was to drive stick ;) Along time ago I took a short weekend road trip in a Econoline van with a mattress in the back and I loved it... Perhaps one day I can get my hands on a Winnebago and do it in real comfort!

He has his doctorate in Geology... see what he did there?

Ellie Nova Ottati - 3 Months!

Has it only been three months? The first month went by in a flash and I felt like she was only just born. Now at three months it feels like she has been with us forever!

Growing? 11 lbs 4 oz and 24 inches long.

New and Exciting? She coos all the time and has discovered her hands. She even kicked her way off the Bobby when we put her on her tummy in it. She looked like she was in boot camp doing the low crawl. If I take a toy and put it in her had she can hold onto it for a minute or two. She looks over at the cat and the dog when they come near her now too and will even smile at them.

Loves? She likes to lay on the floor and talk to us. She loves tummy time and looking at her brightly colored toys. When we go out of the house to a new place she is always so interested in looking around and taking everything in. She smiled at a stranger the other day so it will be interesting to see if she is more outgoing or shy. I bet she will be in introvert like her parents.

Hates? ...honestly not much! She is a very happy baby. She doesn't like having burps or hiccups or a dirty diaper, but who would?

Looking Forward to? Seeing what solid food she will want to eat in three more months. I can't wait to give her a lemon slice to try. I'm making a video of it for sure!
