Lately

School has been out for almost three weeks now and I'm starting to feel very bored. I've been running about four times a week but this past week I have fallen behind. We had a wedding to go to and my mom came to visit which made me sort of forget about healthy eating and put my running on hold. Not running makes me feel very lazy and tired! I feel like waking up takes forever and most of the day I'm groggy and can't focus on anything until about 4 pm. As a night owl this is pretty normal and I used to just stay up late getting things done, but with a baby who likes to be up at 9 am this doesn't really work anymore.
Even though I have avoided running for the past week I am happy to say that I'll be running my very first official race in a few hours! It's Pride Week here in Buffalo and I'll be doing the Gay 5k run.

This Saturday I'll be going to see drag queens Pandora Boxxx and Violet Chachki. I saw Pandora Boxxx in Anchorage a few years ago and was going to get a picture with her until a creepy middle aged guy tried to talk me into going home with him and his wife. Gross. Hopefully no such thing will ruin my time this year!

Other things I've been up to lately:

Reading: What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, by Haruki Murakami

Listening to: Laura Nyro, The First Songs on vinyl.

Watching: Twin Peaks, RuPauls Drag Race, Parks and Recreation, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (No, Ellie is not watching it, I am. You read that correctly.)

Wearing: Pastel pink shorts, a black band tee and pink studded converse.

Cooking: Roasted cauliflower and broccoli have been favorites. I did make some killer turkey meatballs the other day too.

Hair: I recently got the "lob" and I love it. I just did a fresh bleach and color too. I've been entertaining the idea of a a more lavender-pink color and I've tried a new brand of dye which I thought would give me that effect. Strangely it ended up the same pink as my previous dye. Whatev!

Shopping: I am still on a mission to have some sort of personal style, which I found is not readily available at any mall. I managed to find a Plato's Closet, which Anchorage also had, and they have great used clothes! I picked up a pair of studded gladiator sandals and a bunch of tops for summer. I have to keep myself from shopping there too often or I'll end up spending too much money!

I'll have to post up some of the photos from the pirate theme wedding we went to this past weekend. Maybe a blogging schedule will make me feel a little less bored now that summer is almost here?

Nail - Rainbow

This was one of those days when I spent soooooo much time doing a design and never managed to get a good picture! My hands were completely dried up no matter how much hand cream or oil I used. I pretty much photoshopped the crap out of these pictures to make my hands look normal. After this design I had to clip off the gel extensions I had on and now I'm giving my real nails some time to grow out a little bit before I try them again.
My first race is coming up and it's the "Gay 5K" during Pride Week! I may have to try out another rainbow design for race day.

Nail - Purple Two Ways

I did a couple of designs with my new lavender polish but I got super lazy and didn't take take many pictures. The first one I like because it looked like a starry night with lavender fading to purple fading to black. The second one I didn't like very much though. Maybe I'll improve on the first design and post it again!

Nail - Green Chevron

I did my own gel extensions this week! I have really strong natural nails so I don't really need to do extensions, but I liked the idea that I can sculpt them to the shape I want. My natural nails can be bumpy and some curve more than others so with extensions they would theoretically turn out straight and smooth. They still turned out bumpy, but it was my first try and it's really not that bad. I had three break on my right hand but I was able to glue them back on without a problem. It was extremely time consuming but I had fun doing it! I never really liked getting professorial manicures even though they are much more skilled than I am and turn out better in the end. I always thought it was fun to do my nails. I remember having those peel-off nail polish kits as a kid and making all sorts of designs. I uess I haven't gotten over it!
I'm loving this green and grey color combination...

Lilac Festival

Festival season is here and we have been trying to get out to as many events as possible. My dad used to go to the Rochester Lilac Festival when he was a kid. It was fun even though we got rained out only a couple hours after getting there. We still managed to get in some dancing!

Nail - Leopard Print

This was my last full week of classes so I had SO much homework to do! We still have class next week but most of the big assignments have already been turned in. Now I can relax a little bit before finals week. Lucky for me I only have two finals and one should be a breeze.
My mom came out this past weekend to hang out with us and Ellie. We ran around all weekend and had lots of fun! I have lots of backyard pictures to share. I'm loving the warm weather and sunshine.

Ellie inspired my nails this week! My aunt got her this cute leopard print fleece onesie with a little hood and heart shaped knee patches. It was a little tricky to paint the heart and then put the gemstones on my nail but I like how it turned out.

Nail - Neon Pink

I love this look! It's so simple but the neon pink is adorable. I love how the green bow goes with it. I feel like Barbie. I've actually had a few instances where I wanted to flip someone off while driving (people honked at me for stopping for a school bus... really??) and I feel like it would be extra sweet to flip them off with this cute green bow on my nail... Is that's weird?

Anyway... It's getting closer to the end of the semester and the homework is piling up. Soon it will be summer break and I'll officially be a stay at home mom for a few months. Yay!
I'm loving this spring weather... after so much snow being in my life the warm air and sunshine is amazing. I feel like I'm in California again.

Japanese Candy Donuts - Popin' Cookin'

My mom came to visit for Passover weekend and I made her make a Doughnut Popin' Cookin' with me while Ellie took a nap. This kit was so adorable and smelled delicious when we were making it.

This kit was a little more confusing than the last one I did so we had to look up exactly how to do it so we didn't mess up. I may have spent 5 years studying Japanese but I can't read a word of it! Well... I can make out "Do-na-to" on the package... lol

I made the chocolate donuts and my mom made vanilla. The chocolate ones reminded me of the chocolate glazed from Dunkin' Donuts, my favorite, besides Krispy Kreme original glazed of course. Ugh. Now I want donuts!

The chocolate sauce was delicious! They also had strawberry and vanilla icing, sprinkles and little crunchies for decoration. When we finished we both ate a doughnut and they tasted really great! The texture of the donuts was weird but all the flavors were yummy. Much better than the sushi kit! We even stole some extra tastes of the chocolate sauce that we didn't use.

It was a fun afternoon experiment!
