Nail - Mint and Metallic

I had a massage today. I'd been talking about getting a massage for years and I never did it even though I've been having issues with my shoulders. On Valentines Day Joe surprised me with a gift card for a deep tissue massage and it was soooooo great! My shoulders still cramped up today but I can tell it will improve with time so I made another appointment for next month. I think my shoulder issues must have come from a combination of ruck marches, computer drafting and being so cold all the time that I scrunched up and got all tense.
I took pictures of my nails at the spa in the morning while the sun was shining through the windows. It was so nice and bright (a little too bright) but it was deceiving because it was so cold out. A big difference I noticed between Alaska and Buffalo is that Alaska is colder and it's dark all the time, but in Buffalo people just LOVE to complain about winter! Alaskans hardly ever complained but they had it worse.
Of course I complained all the time because I'm not a native Alaskan.

I really can't wait for the snow to go away! It just piles on and on. Oh, how I miss California.

Anniversary Snapshots

Joe and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary on the 21st! We wanted to mark the occasion so naturally we went out to... wait for it... the MALL. Sounds awesome, right? I can explain. We drove downtown to the water that morning because I had to take some photos of the waterfront for a class. I was hoping there would be something cool we could do down there but unfortunately there was nothing but bars and it was snowing horribly. It's been so SO cold. Like Alaska cold. So like everyone else in Buffalo who wanted to get out of the house but still stay out of the snow, we went to the mall.
I had gone there earlier that week to buy some makeup and it was a really nice mall, the first nice one I've been in since I lived in Anchorage. Don't judge me! You'll love a good consumerist-cookie-cutter mall when you've had to live in western Louisiana where Walmart is considered the hot spot on a Saturday.
Anyway.
Joe needed a coat so we went looking for one at Dicks, which somehow led us to seriously consider the purchase of a treadmill. We didn't get one but I feel like we will be saving for one in the future.

We ended up getting dinner at P.F. Changs (making up for some terrible Chinese takeout we ordered on Chinese New Year) We had a really fun time!

A cool building by the water.

The bridge to where all the old grain silos are.

Pottery Barn Baby had this adorable tool bench! If I ever acquire any woodworking skills I will have to make one for her along with a kitchen.

My new favorite makeup pallet of all time, Ombre Nudes by Becca.

I used my vanilla bath bomb yesterday and it was AMAZING. I've never been that big into bath products but this is going to turn into a weekly thing for sure. The shampoo for colored hair was amazing too.

Nail - Pink and Black Ombre

I used to try to do a "weekend nails" feature since I wasn't allowed to wear nail polish during the work week, but now that I'm free I can have my nails pretty every day! I don't really know what to call it now and I don't want to lie and promise to do my nails every weekend (yeah right.) Soooo I suppose just "Nail" is good enough for now.

Like my super-basic-girl selfie? Painted nails, Sephora shopping bag and Flat White Starbucks latte! I wasn't wearing Ugg boots though, so don't worry.

I actually went shopping today! I was on a mission to find this eye shadow pallet from Becca called "Ombre Nudes" that they didn't have at the Sephora in JCPenny. They had it at the full Sephora store in a different mall and so I got it there along with an Anastasia Beverly Hills eyebrow brush.
I also discovered a Lush store! I had heard about it but never thought I would have a local store. I picked up a vanilla bath bomb, massage bar and a very nice store associate with blue hair gave me a sample of the color treated hair shampoo. I'm excited to try it out!

I know ombre is very 2013 but I really don't care. It looks awesome on nails and is so easy to do. I find that those nail stickers just peel the polish right off. I guess I have't gotten the hang of them quite yet.

Polishes used are:
Milani Neon "Pink Rocks!"
Mabelline Express Finish "Onyx Rush"
Revlon "Clear" as a top coat

A Very Merry Unbirthday

Ellie spent her first Valentine Day celebrating her "unbirthday" with her grandma and great aunt! My aunt took the train over to New York to visit my mom and they decided to come out to Buffalo to spoil Ellie for a day. It worked out well because they didn't mind watching her while Joe and I went out for the night.

I feel like Ellie looks like Max from Where the Wild Things Are in this picture:

Morning bed head!

Joe and I had a great time. We went out to a really modern sushi place and got sake jello shots (pretty good!) We went bar hopping in Allentown and eventually ended up at a local Art House were they had a string quartet playing.
The only tough part was walking from our hotel to all the bars. It wasn't a far walk but it was super cold! Nothing like Alaska, but still, it was yucky. Why didn't we decide to make Valentines Day in the spring??

Ink Inspiration #1

I decided to start a weekly feature! I've been trying to come up with a new tattoo idea so I've been scouring the web for inspiration. These are some of my favorites. I'll post some every Monday so check back!

Oh yeah, My Hair

You guys, this month and a half has been totally bonkers. BONKERS. I should have thought twice about making all these big changes while Mercury was in retrograde. Or something. It's far more likely that things were bonkers because that's just what happens when you move across the country, start college and try to deal with daycare and job searches.

DAYCARE you guys. The biggest nightmare ever! I don't even want to talk about it.

Also cars. Cars suck too. Even after we had both cars inspected they both broke down during this whole escapade.

School though, let's talk about that. I'm a total nerd and I love it. Even my horrible pre-calculus class which I'm not even sure I'll pass is great. I swear my brain shriveled up while I was in the army so I'm super happy to be learning things again.

But the most important thing of all is obviously MY HAIR. Which, by the way, is pink now. Pink! I really went back and forth about this idea for a couple of months. Was I too old to dye my hair unnatural colors? After some contemplation I decided the only thing I was too old for was giving fucks. So I'm giving no fucks and dying my hair whatever color I want, and it is AWESOME.

I decided I didn't want to wait to find a salon and then take 6 months to bleach my hair to a platinum blonde. I petty much just went for it. I made the mistake of using box dye first, which is way too expensive for the amount of times I had to bleach my hair (four times.) If I were to start over I would have found a Sally's and bought the bleach powder and developer instead of doing the whole box thing. The fourth bleach was the one I used the bleach powder with and I really prefer that method.

This is my first and second bleach with the box

The fourth bleach turned out white enough to dye my hair a pastel color...

I used N'Rage Bubblegum Pink and diluted it down with a lot of conditioner. It was hard to tell what color it was going to be when I mixed it in the container, but as soon as I put it in my hair I could tell it was going to the perfect color.

I actually just bleached my roots yesterday and dyed it pink again, this time using a little more pink dye so it wouldn't fade too quickly. I have to say the dye stays in pretty well. No bleeding pink colors anywhere either!

I feel like a beautiful magical unicorn. :)
